9. Hush (2016)
movie search: 6.2 out of 10
IMDb: 6.6 out of 10
Genre: horror, thriller
This film, while receiving a lower rating than most, is unique in its own ways. For one, there are only five characters throughout the entirety of the film. This creates a more intimate setting and allows the audience to feel closer to each character. Additionally, most of the film takes place at night, which creates a sense of eeriness. The majority of the events also occur within the same country house. This lack of change in scenery provides suspense as the audience waits to see what will happen next. The main character is a deaf-mute girl who suddenly finds herself face-to-face with a psychopathic maniac. Because of her deafness, the situation appears to be hopeless for the heroine. However, this does not mean that she is helpless. The film follows her journey as she tries to escape both the maniac and the house while staying alive.
8. A Quiet Place (2018)
This science fiction masterpiece is a thriller that beautifully blends horror and suspense in an intense story of a family’s battle against alien monsters. Taking place in a landscape where sound carries the power to mean life or death, the film follows the parents as they try to protect their unborn child while tending to their daily duties and staying out of the monsters’ grasp. This film shows how parents can go beyond exceptional measures when it comes to protecting their children and proving that love knows no bounds – even if it means complete silence against relentless enemies. It is sure to be an unforgettable movie experience for any film buff.
