A new sports anime rarely receives buzz prior to release. Blue Lock, though, isn’t just ordinary sports anime.

What is Blue Lock About?

Based on the acclaimed manga series Blue Lock by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura,
who served as Nomura’s assistant in the Attack on Titan manga, Blue Lock is a shounen anime.
The central setting of the narrative is the appropriately called instructor Jinpachi Ego’s prison-like training facility known as Blue Lock.
Jinpachi, a striker hired by the Japanese FA to improve their performance at the FIFA World Cup,
concludes that Japan lacks a self-centered, egotistical striker who is just concerned with scoring goals.
The top high school athletes in Japan are supposed to train at Blue Lock, but there’s a catch. Japan will only have one striker, and the other players will never be allowed to play for their country.
Yoichi Isagi, a young boy with aspirations of representing Japan on a global scale, is the main character of the novel.
However, he encounters a lot of other mysterious characters in Blue Lock, all of whom share his aspirations.
Even though Blue Lock is an anime about sports, it includes a lot more shounen and action than most programs.
Blue Lock uses traditional shounen manga narratives and ideas to produce a far greater action adventure,
which is why it has been so acclaimed, as compared to the recent soccer anime Ao Ashi.

Blue Lock Release Date

The Blue Lock anime will debut on October 8 in North America and Europe and on October 9 in Japan as part of the already jam-packed Fall 2022 anime season.

The anime will be broadcast in Japan on the NUMAnimation block of TV Asahi.

A Couple of Cuckoos is currently being broadcast this Sunday at 1:30 AM Japanese time programming block.

Early morning TV times are considered extensions of the previous night in Japan. As a result, despite technically being released on October 9, Blue Lock is advertised as airing at 1:30 after midnight (or 25:30) on October 8.

Due to timezone differences, episodes of Blue Lock should be available on Saturdays for viewers in regions such as North America and the UK, starting from October 8th.

Please note that the above countdown is currently set to when the first episode of Blue Lock will release in Japan – 1:30 AM on October 9th – which translates to the following times:

  • Pacific Time: 9:30 AM (October 8th)
  • Central Time: 11:30 AM (October 8th)
  • Eastern Time: 12:30 PM (October 8th)
  • UK Time: 5:30 PM (October 8th)

Where to Watch Blue Lock

While Crunchyroll will stream Blue Lock overseas, it will air in Japan on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block.

Crunchyroll has acquired the majority of the series that had previously aired on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block. The same is true for programs created by the Blue Lock producers.

At Anime Expo in July, Crunchyroll gave the first episode its North American premiere. A legitimate trailer with subtitles has also been made available; it is seen here.

The possibility exists that the series will air on Funimation. However, it’s not certain that any new series will debut on the platform when the Fall season approaches given how quickly Funimation and Crunchyroll are merging.

How Many Episodes will Blue Lock Have?

It has been revealed that Blue Lock will include 24 episodes across two consecutive seasons.

What Studio is Producing Blue Lock?

8bit is the company behind the anime series Blue Lock. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is the production for which the animation company is best known.

Tetsuaki Watanabe is directing the anime.

Although he has directed episodes of the popular sports anime Haikyuu and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, which is frequently compared to Attack on Titan in terms of visuals (note that Blue Lock’s manga is illustrated by one of Attack on Titan’s assistants), it is his first significant role as a director.
